According to mediation entrepreneur Diana Mercer, 41,000 couples file for divorce every year in Los Angeles County. Her company, Peace Talks Mediation Services, launched in 2000, seeks to provide as many of these couples as agreeable a separation as it can, while avoiding the disruptive entanglements of the divorce litigation process.
“We see a lot of great people having the worst day of their lives,” Mercer says. “And we’re really able to help them, and I think that’s what makes it very rewarding.”
Mercer plans to grow her business starting with an education-based marketing campaign. Next, Peace Talks will be the focus of a CourtTV documentary set to air around January 2007.
